I know a bit about military life.
In the early 1990s, I was a co-coordinator of a parenting education/child abuse prevention program in a military community in Germany. As a military spouse, I experienced first hand the grief and stress of my partner being gone for months at a time -- especially as our family was growing and my own needs and perspectives were changing. I was also in the position to hear about (and experience first-hand) the challenges of being reunited following those periods of separation.
Today, the demands placed on service members and their families are still hard -- but also significantly different. The evolving nature of military service presents new challenges that require specialized support and understanding. I bring this perspective to my work, offering compassionate and informed support to individuals and families navigating the difficulties of military life.
Whether you're part of a military family or are an active-duty, national guard / reserve, or retired member seeking help to cope with the requirements and effects of your service, I am available to work with you.
Some things you may be experiencing (or have experienced):
- Deployment-related stress due to frequent deployments, long separations from family, and the seemingly constant uncertainty associated with military life
- Trauma / PTSD, as well as anxiety and depression, from things like exposure to combat, traumatic events, and operational stressors
- Adjustment challenges of reintegrating into civilian life after deployment, navigating career transitions, and adjusting to changes in family dynamics
- Stigma related to mental health issues, combat experiences, or military sexual trauma
- Relationship challenges due to deployments and frequent moves, which can strain relationships with partners, children, and other family members
- An insecure sense of identity and purpose from navigating changes in roles and responsibilities, both within the military and upon transitioning to civilian life
- Physical health concerns, such as exposure to specific chemicals and life-impacting conditions, that have led to chronic pain and other health issues related to military service
But What About the Cost?
I do not take insurance, but I am willing to work with my clients to arrive at a fee that works for them. In many cases (and depending on need), this may be around the cost of your insurance copay. In other cases, I can provide you with superbill that you can submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement. Learn more here about my options for covering costs, or reach out to me by email to ask any questions you might have.
